Director’s Notes

In this segment, Venus discusses

  • As a director, letting your background, home life, culture, neighborhood, favorite books, etc, inform how you interpret a show.

  • Allowing a director's or actor's identity to help shape staging, lighting, and nuances in how characters interact.

  • Helping actors translate their backgrounds into the characters they're playing.

  • Teaching actors to be true to who they are, which can actually turn "weaknesses" into authenticity and strength.
