In this segment, Beth highlights

  • Doing your research to understand the time period of your show. 

  • Learning what attire and materials looked like during a time period, and adapting those in simple ways for the stage.

  • Using hidden meaning through color - you can tell an entire story through color, which the audience will pick up on subconsciously. 

  • Starting with a color palette and adapting from there - for example if the world is the night sky, choose which costume colors will represent the sky, and which will represent the earth. 

  • Showing time passage without significant costume changes - ie, through change of a cloak to a jacket to a vest.
